Our trip around the world hasn't yet begun, so this page is going to look a little empty for a little while.
We'll be able to update our blog from the road, but will only be able to edit pages (adding new country sections, for example) from computers we may come across along the way. So we set up a few placeholders for the first few countries we expect to hit; entries will appear underneath as they're published. Just click the name of a country (listed alphabetically) to see all related content, or get started with the posts listed below each. More on our overall route here.
The very first stop on our bike ride around the world, we're expected to get to Botswana in early July (2017). Our page-editing capabilities will be reduced once we hit the road, but new posts should begin filling in below as they get published.
Twenty-plus hours of daylight (at least at the right time of the year), limitless wild camping, and an absolutely astounding number of waterfalls, plus glaciers and volcanoes, too. Iceland may be rainy, windy, expensive, and cold, but it's still a beautiful place to bike
Excellent food, gorgeous scenery, and really kind, friendly people. Whether pedaling through Berber villages high in the Atlas mountains, striking out for the edge of the Sahara, or tackling the rugged coast, Morocco is a terrific spot for cyclists of any experience level.
Having driven the length of Namibia twice (and having loved every mile of its gorgeous wide open spaces), we're hoping to make a little detour back to the country's Caprivi Strip en route from Botswana to Zambia. Our page-editing capabilities will be reduced once we hit the road, but new posts should begin filling in below as they get published.
Great sand deserts, sprawling plains, golden coasts and sky-scraping mountains and red rock canyons: the United States has a whole lot to offer. Though we've driven, hiked, and scootered it extensively, most of our cycling experience is, sadly, confined to a sliver of the east coast
The third country we expect to reach on our bike ride around the world. Our page-editing capabilities will be reduced once we hit the road, but new posts should begin filling in below as they get published.
As for where we're headed this time around, that's all very tentative and subject to our whims (and those of visa-issuing bureaucrats), but the rough plan is to start in South Africa (in July 2017), cycle north through eastern Africa (Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt), perhaps take a little break in Europe, then head east through Asia toward Oceania, before flying to South America and biking north to the United States. As we move, we'll occasionally update the map below with our progress.
